Jordan Hiller,
Recycling & Solid Waste Program Coordinator
Meet at 1419 Holland Rd in Appleton, WI for a very unique tour of the Outagamie County Recycling Facility. The full walking tour is equal to about .75 of a mile and covers many, multiple stair sets.
Attendees must wear closed toe shoes or won’t be allowed out on the floor. All other PPE will be provided (hardhat, safety glass, & safety vest). It’s ok to bring your own, if you’d like. Headsets with microphones are used to allow attendees to listen and ask questions during the tour.
You’ll witness the entire recycling sorting process from unloading a recycling truck to material being bailed into shippable product. You’ll observe the pre-sort room, disc screen separators, the paper sort lines, polishing screens, container sort line, eddy current machine, optical sorter, residual discharge belt, and end at the bailers. Get an in-depth look at how 16% of Wisconsin’s recycled materials are processed, sorted, and shipped back to market.
