Hilarie Rath, Arnold Grummer Certified Hand Papermaker

Hilarie Rath is returning to teach botanical card making, but we’re making this offering even more special by offering the following series of classes:

While each class can be taken independently, we highly encourage participants to take all four classes, as one skill will build upon another. If you take all four classes, you will walk away with a hand bound book with your own designs and poetry. All materials are provided.

Hilarie Rath is a paper educator from Green Bay who thoroughly enjoys learning about the unbridled potential of paper. Bonniejean Zitske lives in Madison, Wisconsin with her husband and son.

Session Topics

September 7 : Botanical Card Making

Do you wish you could enjoy the beauty of your garden just a little longer? Do you wish you could share your garden with loved ones who live far away? Create a handmade card using botanicals, so you can preserve your favorite garden treasures. Learn how to form handmade paper sheets using botanical infused pulp, and how to embed pressed botanicals to create original greeting cards. Take home whatever you create!

Pressed flowers will be available, but we encourage participants to press and bring their own botanicals from home. This class sold out last year, so be sure to register early!

September 14: Surface Design

Get ready to play and have some fun! If you have not yet used gelli plates for one-of-a-kind printing, this is your chance. Hilarie will teach you how to use botanicals from your garden as well as other tools to create original designs to enhance your paper and books. Once you start, you will see many uses for the prints you make.

September 21: Basic Book Binding

By popular demand, Hilarie will be teaching participants how to take the paper they make and turn these beauties into elegant, practical cards and books. You will be amazed at the beautiful and practical treasures you can make with minimal equipment. You will learn how easy it is to bind and preserve your artistic treasures.

September 24: Poetry in the Garden with Guest Instructor, Bonniejean Zitske

Join Green Bay native, Bonniejean, for an afternoon of micro-syllabic journaling or haiku! Bonniejean began writing daily haiku in November of 2019. As someone who had always wanted, but consistently failed, to develop a regular journaling practice, the short, structured poems provided her with a simple way to document the world around her.

During this class, she’ll share the history of haiku, the tips and tricks she’s learned for quickly jotting down a 5-7-5 syllabic poem to capture a moment, and how this practice has transformed her journaling routine.

Don't Delay!

Register right away as classes may fill quickly. We also value our instructors' time, so classes may risk being canceled due to low early enrollment. Thank you!
