6 - Herbs in Your
Garden - 6:00-7:30 pm
Jane Cole – Herbs in Thyme
Whether you are interested in herbs for decorative or edible
purposes, many herbs are easy and fun to grow. Join Jane Cole to
learn how to grow, care for, harvest, and use some easy to grow
varieties. Class will cover herbs suitable for the shade, your
salad, the bees and birds, and more!

10 - Spring’s Wings Bird Walk - 6:30-7:30 am
As part of Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary’s Spring’s Wings Event,
GBBG will be having a FREE bird walk. Meet us at 6:30 am in the
GBBG Visitor Center with a pair of binoculars. From there we
will stalk the grounds looking for our feathered friends. After
visiting GBBG, head over to Bay Beach for further birding
events.

Bill Wright – UW-Extension Community Garden Coordinator
Many people enjoy the wide variety of activities that gardening
has to offer. However, as the population ages, aching joints may
decrease the pleasure of this hobby and make gardening seem more
like a task. Join Bill Wright to discover tips and techniques
that will enable you to make gardening an enjoyable, lifelong
activity.

Interested in herbs? We have a day for you! All classes are put
on by the herbalists of the Northeast Wisconsin Unit of the Herb
Society of America. Sign up for just one or get a discount by
registering for all three! All classes will meet in the GBBG
Volunteer Center.
9:00-10:00 am - Designing Your Herb Garden
Learn the basics of designing an herb garden while
enjoying a PowerPoint filled with all types of garden choices.
Using graph paper and reference books, plan your own
garden.

Learn how easy it is to incorporate herbs into your
culinary treats during this "taste as we go" class. Attendees
will each take home a lavender and basil plant and seed

Landscape Design – A Fresh Look! - 6:00-8:00 pm
John and Liz Katalinich – Yardening By Nature
Right now is a great time to evaluate the design of your
landscape – weather is favorable, you can best judge how your
plants are growing and it’s easier to visualize your actual
layout space. These two classes will take you through the step
by step process used to create a landscape design. The first
session is an overview concerning all the required property data
and hardscape. The second session is very specific about the
many design elements. Bring your questions and ideas.
Do-it-yourselfers and dedicated gardeners will have an
opportunity to participate and have fun…it’s all in the details!

6 - Updating your Perennial

Could your perennial bed use some redecorating? Just as fashion
fads and decorating styles wax and wane, flower varieties go in
and out of fashion. We’ll talk about what plants are
“fashionable” in the industry in 2008 and how you can
incorporate them into your plantings.

10 - Leaf Casting - 6:00-8:00 pm
David Calhoon – Swanstone Gardens
Leaf casting is a process that creates cement molds from plant
leaves. The natural depressions and veins in a leaf are captured
in detail in cement. While the art of leaf casting has been
around for years, it is one of the latest and hottest projects
that home crafters are trying. David Calhoon will be your
instructor for the leaf casting class. All supplies included.
Bring leaves from your favorite hosta or rhubarb. Class meets in
the GBBG Volunteer Center.

17 - Willow Bench Workshop -
6:00-9:00 pm
Clyde Druckrey – Willow Woods Furniture
Bring a bit of the outdoors in! Clyde Druckrey of Willow Woods
Furniture will guide participants through the process of
constructing their own willow bench. These rustic and beautiful
three foot benches can be used to decorate your garden or home.
(willow frame with a stained wood seat). Participants should
bring a hammer and cordless drill. Class meets in the GBBG
Volunteer Center.

15 - Mosaic Garden Pots -
6:00-8:00 pm
David Calhoon – Swanstone Gardens
Create your unique mosaic container to brighten up any corner of
the yard. David Calhoon of Swanstone Gardens will guide you
through this project with a large supply of glass, beads, and
stones to create a whimsical container. Wonderfully fun and
great therapy!

22 - Growing Delightful
Daylilies in Your Garden - 10:00-11:30 am
Michael Morgan – Bay Area Daylily Society
Mike will be using the nearly 200 cultivars in the GBBG/Bay Area
Daylily Society Buds Repository Beds to illustrate the rich
variety of colors, color patterns, edges, forms, and sizes of
modern daylilies. Discussions will consider how easy it is to
grow daylilies, as well as how to select cultivars that are
hardy in northeast Wisconsin. Class meets in the Visitor Center,
but will be held outdoors. Please dress appropriately.

Phil Pellitteri – Entomologist UW-Madison/UW-Extension
Insects always seem to find ways to bug us! Phil will tell you
about the insect pests you’ll be likely to see in your home and
garden this year. He’ll help you to identify the insects, share
tips on how to avoid or get rid of them, and answer questions
you may have about what’s bugging you.

Hunt! - Children’s Hike - 11:00 am -12:00 pm
Phil Pellitteri – Entomologist UW-Madison/UW-Extension
If you are fascinated by creepy crawlies, you’re not alone. Phil
Pellitteri is an entomologist, or insect scientist, who loves to
find and identify bugs. Join him for an insect safari into the
Garden in search of its six-legged inhabitants. You’ll learn to
identify the insects you find and get an up-close look at them
by microscope. If you find a bug you can’t identify, bring it in
and Phil will help you out.

4 - Herb Dyed Scarves -

Jackie Johnson and Cindy Hermsen – NEW Unit of the Herb Society
of America
Herbs can be used for much more than cooking. Jackie and Cindy
will show you how to transform a 100% white silk scarf from
plain to dramatic using plants from your garden and spices from
your pantries. Materials will be provided to make one scarf.
More can be made for an additional fee. Class meets in the GBBG
Volunteer Center.
