Learn about the various cheeses that are produced in Wisconsin including hard, soft , blues, and goat cheeses. We’ll discuss the various groups of cheese, how each is made, and the differences between artisan and specialty cheeses. Join us for samples and recipes.

All the earthworms you are familiar with in Wisconsin are not native. Our native earthworms were wiped out during the last ice age and subsequently our native forests evolved without the presence of earthworms. Their introduction to a forest can have devastating effects on the long term regeneration of many of our native species.

Learn about the many modern daylilies that do well in the Northern Wisconsin garden, how to plant, care for, when and how to divide, and hybridizing of daylilies. For the beginner or advanced student, this workshop teaches watercolor techniques through exercises that help the participant understand color, composition and improve brush control. Information on the history, paper, paint, drawing and transfer techniques used in botanical art will be shared. Basic drawing skills are helpful for drawing the plant specimen from which to paint an elegant botanical portrait. Materials not included. Minimum of 9 needed to run this class.

Val will explain exactly what genetically modified food (GMO) is. We’ll review science that both showcases benefits and casts doubts on their long term sustainability. Explore whether these genetically modified organisms really are bad for your health. Learn how to avoid GMO products or to find alternatives. Minimum of 12 needed to run this class.

Instructors: Kristen Urban & Jackie Johnson – NEW Herb Society of America

The Mediterranean Diet combines elements of the traditional dietary patterns of southern Italy, Crete, and coastal Greece. It emphasizes abundant plant foods, fresh fruit, olive oil, whole grains, and little red meat. This class will demonstrate how the household cook can adapt foods found in American pantries to turn out quick, tasty, and heart-healthy meals with a Mediterranean flair. At the end of the class, participants will sample a full meal of Mediterranean inspired foods, from antipasto to dessert.
