NEW Gardens at Green Bay Botanical Garden
- Pavilion being erected on site this week
For Immediate Release
August 17, 2010
(Green Bay, WI) – Last fall, Green Bay Botanical Garden (GBBG) broke ground on two new gardens: the King Shade Garden and the Jenquine Overlook set to open in 2011. Significant progress has been made this summer on the new gardens including the planting of over 3,000 trees, shrubs and perennials.
Work began on Monday to erect an open-air pavilion, which was constructed off-site this summer, in the Jenquine Overlook Garden. The pavilion made of hand-hewn barn beans was constructed using hand tools and timber pegs in a mortise and tenon construction, a method used by woodworkers for thousands of years. The pavilion will be topped with cedar shakes and once complete, plantings of woodland perennials and native species will be installed.
The King Shade Garden is complete! Come out and see this great new garden that offers a peaceful place to stop and rest. This hosta and shade perennial glen features a meandering, burbling stream and is entered via a constructed ruin of a spring house. Flowering shrubs and trees surround the valley, and boulder lined paths give visitors multiple perspectives on the plantings.
