(Green Bay, WI) – Dr. Ikka Nakashima is in Green Bay for the annual Ikebana Show at Green Bay Botanical Garden this weekend. Dr. Nakashima, known to her students as Sensei (teacher), is a master of Ikenobo and has been teaching the art of Ikebana in the United States for more than 60 years. Sensei received the Gold & Silver Ray Award, the highest civilian honor given to anyone in Japan for her mastery of Ikebana, Chanoyu (tea ceremony) and teaching of Japanese culture. This award is extremely rare for a civilian to receive and is given by the Emporer of Japan. Dr. Nakashima is a retired pulmonologist and lives in Chicago.

Ikebana is a fascinating, centuries-old Japanese art of floral arranging, with each design telling a different story. Green Bay Botanical Garden is hosting the Annual Ikebana Show today, Friday, March 5th and Saturday, March 6th from 9 am to 4 pm. Local students and expert instructors from the Ikenobo Ikebana Society are available to share their knowledge and love of this art form. Ikebana demonstrations and tea ceremonies will also be held each day.
