Artist’s Choice – Silk Painted Pillow or Scarf ∙ Wednesday, March 3 ∙ 9 am-1 pm
Sandy Melroy – Silk Sensations
Let your inner artist spring forth – choose to paint either an 11” x 60” silk scarf or 18” x 18” silk pillow. Sandy will walk you through the process of silk painting; then let the spring garden be the inspiration for the project of your choice. Each piece with be original and beautiful! Annual Ikebana Show ∙ Friday, March 5 & Saturday, March 6 ∙ 9 am to 4 pm
Discover and learn about Ikebana – the centuries-old art of Japanese floral arranging. Local students and expert instructors from the Ikenobo Ikebana Society will display their floral creations at the Garden from 9 am to 4 pm each day of the show. Ikebana demonstrations will also be given each day at 11:30 am and 2 pm. The show and all demonstrations are free with general admission to the Garden.
Soup With Substance · Friday, March 12 · 5:30-8 pm
Join us for an educational and recreational program this winter: the Soup With Substance series. Hike, snowshoe or blaze your own cross country skiing trail on the 47 acres of natural beauty at Green Bay Botanical Garden. Then come inside the Visitors’ Center to warm up with hot soup and hearty bread. Enjoy poetry by Ellen Kort, Poet Laurette and relax to the soothing sounds of live music by Rough Draft (jazz, pop, show tunes). The series runs every other Friday through March 26th with a different lecture and music each night. Advance tickets are required. GBBG Members: $7; Non-Members: $12.
Design Concepts for Residential Landscapes ∙ Monday, March 15 ∙ 6-8 pm AND Wednesday, March 17 ∙ 6-8 pm
John and Liz Katalinich – Yardening by Nature
Now is the time to evaluate the design of your landscape! These two classes will take you through the step by step process used to create a landscape design. The first session is an overview concerning the property data, the second night will delve into the many design elements. The class is perfect for do-it-yourselfers and dedicated gardeners. Class meets in the NWTC Landscape Horticulture Learning Center located at GBBG. GBBG Members: $14; Non-members: $24; Pre-registration required – Limit 24
Garden Brick Stamping ∙ Tuesday, March 23 ∙ 6-9 pm
David Calhoon – Swanstone Gardens
It’s not written in stone…or is it? Make 3 bricks or one 12”x12” message stone. Keep your molds and set of letter stamps. As always, there will be plenty of choices of mosaic embellishments. Be sentimental, silly, or reflective. Class meets in the GBBG Volunteer Center. GBBG Members: $40; Non-members: $45; Pre-registration required – Limit 20

Jerry Landwehr – Scenic View Nursery
Proper pruning can enhance the life and beauty of any tree or shrub. Jerry will bring participants into the Garden for demonstrations of different pruning tools and techniques. Come with questions about your own garden and learn to prune your plants correctly. This class is an outdoor demonstration, please dress accordingly. Advance orders are due for Green Bay Botanical Garden’s Annual Mulch, Compost & Potting Soil Sale. Stock up on this once a year sale of bagged cocoa bean mulch, potting soil, worm castings and compost. Orders will be available for pick-up on Friday, April 30 for GBBG Members and Saturday, May 1 for Non-Members. Limited quantities will be available for sale on the days of pick-up.

Dwarf conifers can add interest to any landscape and are especially well suited for small areas. Join Gene as he discusses several varieties of these miniature trees, focusing on their texture, color, shape, and growth rate as well as how they can be used in the landscape. Kiss Your Ash Goodbye: Understanding Treatment and Replacement ∙ Tuesday, April 6 ∙ 6:30-8 pm
Mark Freeberg – City of Green Bay Forester
Worried about your ash trees? Be prepared for the Emerald Ash Borer by learning about your alternatives: treatment or replacement. Mark will explain treatment options for infested trees and give you tips on selecting species that would be suitable replacements. Landscaping for Birds ∙ Wednesday, April 7 ∙ 7-9 pm
Marietta Nowak – Author and Wild Ones Member
This class is co-sponsored by Wild Ones-Native Plants, Natural Landscapes Green Bay chapter (www.for-wild.org/chapters/greenbay ). Join Marietta Nowak, author of the book Birdscaping in the Midwest, for a lecture that teaches gardeners that even small steps can improve bird habitat. Nowak guides gardeners through planning a variety of gardens, including prairies, woodlands, ponds and rain gardens, which can all be designed to attract birds and other wildlife. Program is FREE with Wild Ones membership. Please note: a short Wild Ones business meeting will take place before the presentation. Nichole will also share important flower care tips specific to fresh cut bulbs, so you can keep this arrangement, and spring bulbs cut from your own gardens, looking their best. Mike Maderer – A Four Season Tree Care
Proper care throughout a tree’s life can lead to a more beautiful, healthy, and robust looking tree. Mike will share several basic maintenance practices for trees young to mature, including proper planting, watering, mulching, and pruning techniques. He will also discuss some of the red flags that signal when it may be time to have a mature tree removed. Want a great looking lawn the natural way? Jim will share how FVTC cares for their grounds organically by looking more closely at the soil, compost, and compost tea. Learn how to use each component in your lawn care, as well as how to make compost tea buckets to brew compost tea at home. James Beard – Fox Valley Technical College
Looking to gain a better understanding of basic garden design? Join Jim for a discussion of site conditions and influences on design, how to evaluate your views, and how to organize use areas, hardscape, and structures in your gardens. Bring along your questions, issues, and problems for Jim to address as examples during class. Class meets in the NWTC Landscape Horticulture Learning Center located at GBBG.
