Winter Activities at Green Bay Botanical Garden

(Green Bay, WI) –Green Bay Botanical Garden now offers Saturday classes and a Winter Walking Club to entice more visitors to the winter garden.
To make this beautiful season available to more visitors, Green Bay Botanical Garden is now open Monday through Saturday from 9 am – 4 pm this winter. Stop in to take a winter walk, blaze your own cross-country ski trail past the pond, or venture through the prairie on snowshoes. Bring a sled and the kids and carve out a toboggan run on the Belvedere hillside. Attend one of our newly added Saturday morning education classes then enjoy lunch and an afternoon hike. If you need another incentive, register for the Winter Walking Club at the admissions desk. Each time you venture into the Garden this winter you’ll earn points towards discounts on memberships, education classes, or in the Trellis Gift Shop. Theresa Ann Gifford– Assemblage Studio
Learn the art of collaging! Work on a gallery canvas to make your own garden angel using lots of fun papers, fabrics, lace, found objects and more. Bring along an image for your angel’s face or choose one from the shop. Class held at Assemblage Studio, 611 George Street, DePere. FAMILY FRIENDLY! Feed the birds this winter out of a 10 inch ceramic feeder you’ve painted yourself. Sandy will demonstrate how the ceramic form is created, then guide you through the acrylic painting process. Each masterpiece will be sealed and ready to fill with seed when you get home. Glass on Glass: Stained Glass Window Mosaic · Monday, January 25 · 6-9 pm
David Calhoon – Swanstone Gardens
Use a pre-cut stained glass pattern to start your design, then fill it in with your choice of mosaic pieces. Learn to cut glass and create a one-of-a-kind framed, stained glass picture. Your pattern is glued to clear glass, grouted and cleaned, and ready to display in a sunny window. GBBG Members: $40; Non-members: $45; Pre-registration required – Limit 20.
Soup With Substance · Friday, January 29th · 5:30-8 pm
Join us for an educational and recreational program this winter: the Soup With Substance series. Hike, snowshoe or blaze your own cross country skiing trail on the 47 acres of natural beauty at Green Bay Botanical Garden. Then come inside the Visitors’ Center to warm up with hot soup and hearty bread. Enjoy a topical lecture on House Plant Care by Loren Hansen of The Plant People and relax to the soothing sounds of live music. The series runs every other Friday from January 29th through March 26th with a different lecture and music each night. Advance tickets are required. GBBG Members: $7; Non-Members: $12

Experience and enjoy the extraordinary and beautiful Chihuly glass as seen in daylight and after sundown at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, Arizona. Dale Chihuly studied at the University of Wisconsin - Madison as is perhaps the best known artist in the world. His glass both reflects and enhances the botanical settings.

Join Odyssey Tours and Green Bay Botanical Garden for a trip to the Chicago Flower & Garden Show · March 9 & 10, 2010. Itinerary: Day 1 - Tuesday, March 9: We'll depart from Green Bay Botanical Garden's parking lot by 8 am, arriving in time for our included lunch, a stop at Millenium Park and a special visit to the Art Institute of Chicago. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure, with plenty of shopping, sightseeing and dining options within easy walking distance of our centrally located hotel - the historic Hampton Majestic. In the heart of the theater district, our hotel is just one block off State Street and two blocks from Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower). Day 2 - Wednesday, March 10: After our included breakfast, we'll head for the high point of our trip - the lovely theme gardens, informative seminars and specialty vendors at the annual Chicago Flower & Garden Show, being held once again at Navy Pier. Lunch will be on your own at the show, plus we'll make a dutch treat supper stop enroute home. Expected return time into Green Bay Botanical Garden is approximately 9 pm. Cost: $325 per person (double occupancy) Includes: Deluxe motorcoach transportation, overnight accommodations, admission to listed attractions, 1 lunch, 1 breakfast, tips, escort. Payments: Due in full by February 5, 2010. Register early - space is limited. Cancellation Policy: Individual cancellations up to and including February 5, 2010 will receive a full refund, minus $25 processing fee. Portland and Seattle were the home bases for this trip which included Portland’s Classical Chinese Garden, Berry Botanic Garden, the International Rose Test Gardens, Monrovia Nursery and Lakewold Gardens. The trip included Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island. Japanese Gardens were also visited in Portland and Seattle.
Yoga at the Garden · Session 2: Tuesdays, February 23 – April 6 · 7-7:45 am
Back by popular demand! Participants enjoyed yoga so much this summer we’ve moved it inside so we can continue it during the winter. These 7 week sessions are taught by qualified YMCA instructors and offer a workout for both body and mind. Wear comfortable clothing and bring your own yoga mat or beach towel to work on.
