”Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.”

– Vince Lombardi

Our volunteers are truly the heart and soul of Green Bay Botanical Garden. Without them, we could not provide quality programs and services, exceptional special events, or a beautifully-maintained Garden. There are many ways to get involved, and a wide variety of volunteer roles to fit your interests and skills.

How to Volunteer

To get started, we ask that you complete a volunteer application, either online or by downloading the application, printing it out and returning it to the Volunteer Manager. Once it is received and approved, the Volunteer Manager will contact you to set up an appointment to discuss your interests and how they match with the Garden’s needs.

Volunteer Orientation

At Green Bay Botanical Garden, we understand you have a choice as to where you give your time volunteering. That is why an hour long, one–on-one orientation is set up to review your application and for us to get to know you better – your interests, schedule restraints and anything else you would like to share. At the same time, we thoroughly review our volunteer position descriptions so we can best match your skills, interests and capabilities to our assignments.

Volunteer Assignments

After taking part in our new volunteer orientation, our prospective volunteers work with the Volunteer Manager to find a good fit within the opportunities the Garden currently has. Once a position is agreed upon between both the volunteer and the Garden, you will be put in contact with the lead staff person in charge of the designated area to schedule your training and set up a work schedule.

Group Volunteer Opportunities

The Garden is open to working with your group: young or old, corporate, school or church organization. Together, we will work on creating a project that benefits both you and the Garden on the date and time allotted. Projects will vary depending on the season, but extra hands are always welcomed! Please contact the Volunteer Manager to review your request.

Dollars for Doers Volunteer Grant Program

What is it?

Your employer may call it by a different name, but essentially it’s a corporate employee and retiree giving program where your employer provides a financial donation to the Garden when you volunteer with us on a regular basis.

How does it work?

Typically, it’s as easy as:

  1. Completing a form
  2. Sending it to the Garden for verification
  3. We submit it to your company for the donation

To find out if your company has a Dollars for Doers Grant Program, contact your program administrator or human resources department and consider submitting a request on behalf of the Garden.

Below is a brief listing of some companies that participate:

Green Bay Packers

Land O’ Lakes

Menasha Corporation – Foundation

Northwestern Mutual

Prevea Health Circle of Giving

Robert W. Baird

SC Johnson

ShopKo Foundation

St. Vincent Hospital

UnitedHealth Group Employee Giving Campaign

U.S. Venture (U.S. Oil)

Volunteer Expectations

Green Bay Botanical Garden staff members greatly appreciate the work of our volunteers and make them an integral part of garden operations. Like new employees, volunteers are expected to fulfill the commitments specific to their assignments in a manner that is consistent with Green Bay Botanical Garden’s mission:

Green Bay Botanical Garden cultivates an appreciation for the enduring relationship between plants and people. Through our volunteers and staff, we serve people of all ages by providing year-round educational and recreational experiences within an environment that engages, inspires and refreshes.

Volunteers with suggestions, comments, or concerns are encouraged to communicate these to their supervisor, the Volunteer Manager, or the Executive Director of Green Bay Botanical Garden.

Please note: it may take up to two weeks for your volunteer application to be processed. If you do not receive an email response from the Garden within two weeks of submitting your application, contact the Volunteer Manager at volunteers@gbbg.org. Volunteers must be able to communicate with the Volunteer Manager via email. Due to the large number of volunteers that the Garden utilizes, it is difficult to keep volunteers without access to email updated on our volunteer needs, opportunities, programs and policies.
