Volunteer

Our volunteers are truly the heart and soul of Green Bay Botanical Garden. Without them, we could not provide quality programs and services, exceptional special events, or a beautifully-maintained Garden. There are many ways to get involved, and a wide variety of volunteer roles to fit your interests and skills, including:

Special Events

Nearly all of our special events throughout the year require the assistance and expertise of volunteers in order to be successful. Volunteer duties vary by event, but may include admissions, traffic control/parking, concessions, greeting guests and many opportunities in between. Volunteering for special events is a great way to help out as your schedule permits, especially because many of our events are held in the evening or on weekends. Special events also offer students a unique and beautiful place to fulfill school-mandated service requirements!

Garden Maintenance

Whether you’re a Master Gardener or simply interested in maintaining our beautiful gardens and learning a little about gardening, we can certainly use your help with weeding, planting, pruning, maintaining beds and other garden chores. Our horticulture staff works with volunteers 8 am-noon on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings, typically from mid-April through October. You can come on any day(s) that fit your schedule or join one of our more regular volunteer groups, like the “Happy Hoers” or the “Thursday Guys”!

Summer Weed n’ Feed Program

Join us the second Wednesday of each month (June-September) to assist with Garden maintenance. You weed (or do other garden chores) from 5-7 pm, and then we provide dinner from 7-8 pm. Weed n’ Feeds are an excellent opportunity for volunteers who work or have other commitments during the day to become involved in maintaining the Garden.

Greeter Desk

You could be the “face of the Garden!” Greeters are the first, and sometimes the only, volunteers to welcome our guests and give a great first impression of the Garden. Using our computerized cash register, the greeters take admission fees, ring up gift shop purchases and take class registrations and memberships, as well as answer phones, perform light office duties, and serve as a general source of information for visitors. Serving as a greeter is the perfect opportunity for those who want to volunteer with us on a more regular basis, as we prefer an every other week commitment of 3-4 hours per week, though substitute greeters are always needed to fill in as needed. Training is provided for this important customer service role. Must be age 18 or older for this volunteer opportunity.

Education

Docents (Garden Guides) lead tours of our garden for adult groups and school groups. If you are interested in becoming part of this specialized, important group, contact our Children & Family Educator, Kelle Hartman at (920) 491-3691 ext. 107 or khartman@gbbg.org

Office Assistant

The Garden staff frequently needs assistance with preparing mailings, assisting with the Garden Library, making reminder phone calls, and other administrative tasks.

Next Steps

Does one of these opportunities seem like it might be a good fit for your interests and talents? Then we need YOU to join our team! Fill out a volunteer application online or download and print an application and expect that will will conduct background checks on all prospective volunteers.
