Custodian/Banquet Set-Up – Part Time

Job Title:         Custodial; Banquet Set-Up & Tear-Down

Department:    Facilities

Status:             Part Time Non-exempt; mostly nights and weekends; averaging 15-20 hours/week

Reports to:      Custodial Supervisor

Position Summary:

Ensure the Garden’s facilities remain inviting & beautiful for the 100,000+ visitors each year.

Set-up events and meetings on Garden grounds according to schedule. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Clean daily Visitor & Education Centers, including main entryways, upper- and lower-level public areas, bathrooms, Cornerstone Hall & lobby windows, classrooms, conference room, Gift Shop, kitchen and storage areas.
    • As needed spot mop, vacuum, dust & wipe down building items
    • Use own judgment, clean areas when needed
  • Seasonal cleaning of:
    • Horticulture/Volunteer Center -- reception area, kitchen, bathroom, shower & offices.
      • Outside during spring/summer/fall – Lusthaus & Hobbit House
  • Restock restroom products (toilet paper, soap, etc.) & cleaning supplies as needed
  • Continually recommend improvements for greater operation efficiency.
  • Set-up and tear-down meeting rooms/spaces as scheduled by staff using Event Management System (EMS).
    • Follow standards outlined in Event Binder
    • Create new documents for staff reference as needed to
  • Initial set-up sheets for follow-up with staff if needed.
  • Lift chairs to stack on dolly; fold, unfold & set-up tables for events
  • Clean floors using floor scrubbing machine in Education Center’s Cornerstone Hall, KC Stock Lobby, main office hallway and classrooms.
  • Wipe down tables and chairs as needed during set-up or tear-down.
  • Empty trash and remove to dumpsters.
  • Request cleaning supplies & repairs.
  • Maintain open communication with staff and volunteers.
  • Continually recommend improvements for greater operation efficiency.
  • Ensure visitor safety and security.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Experience and Skills Required: 

  • Able to work with cleaning chemicals.
  • Able to push a vacuum and a cleaning cart (up to 20 pounds of lifting, pulling, pushing).
  • Able to lift and move tables and chairs.
  • Able to work alone without direct supervision.
  • Able to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers and guests.
