2011 Garden Expo in Madison, WI - February 11-13 - Feb 7, 2011
by Mark Konlock, Director of Horticulture, Green Bay Botanical Garden
Did you know that it is already February? Yes, a whole month of 2011 is over – bringing us that much closer to spring! Before you know it the first winter aconites and snowdrops will be pushing up through and blooming above the white stuff. It is time to get ready!
The Garden Expo in Madison, in my opinion, is the best garden expo in the state. First of all it is inexpensive - $7 for a day pass (in advance; $8 at the door) or $11 for a two-day pass (tickets are available at Green Bay Botanical Garden). Second of all, you can visit hundreds of vendors that have garden related merchandise from seeds to live plants to garden art to jewelry (don't forget to stop by Green Bay Botanical Garden's booth #325!). Most importantly, you have access to numerous seminars and demonstrations. I highly recommend printing out the seminar schedule and planning what you want to see at what time, and then working the exhibitors into your schedule from there. If you haven’t been to the expo before, you will be amazed at the number of attendees (20,000 over the 3 days of the expo) and how many of them take advantage of the educational opportunities.
If you don’t wish to drive, Green Bay Botanical Garden & Odyssey Tours are chartering a bus. The expo website also lists hotel information if you’d rather stay overnight and break up the drive as well as enjoy the restaurants and other activities in Madison. No matter how you get there though, it is worth it!
Spring will be here soon, so get excited!
